C.J. Stroud is a quarterback for the Houston Texans as of the 2024 NFL season. He was drafted 2nd overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft by the Texans. Stroud had played as the starting QB for the Ohio State University Buckeyes for 2 seasons - 2021 & 2022. He threw for over 8000 passing yards, as well as 85 touchdowns - leading him to become a Heisman trophy finalist in both years. In 2022, he led the Buckeyes to the College Football Playoffs, where they suffered a narrow 42-41 loss in the semifinals to the University of Georgia (UGA) Bulldogs, despite Stroud throwing for 348 yards, 4 touchdowns, and completing 23 of 34 attempted passes.
On the back of his impressive college resume, Stroud chose to forgo his 2 remaining years of eligibility and declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. Stroud was selected 2nd overall by the Texans in the 2023 NFL Draft and has led the team to a 10-7 record. On the back of Stroud’s star-studded performances, the Texans marched on to capture the AFC South Division title, as well as a playoff berth in Stroud’s rookie season. Yet, that wasn't to be the end of his season. In the wildcard round, up against arguably the best defense in the NFL in 2023 - the Cleveland Browns (& perennial DPOY candidate Myles Garrett), Stroud showed off his full repertoire of skills. In the 45-14 thrashing of the Browns, Stroud finished the game going with 16 of 21 passes completed, for a gain of 274 yards and three touchdowns. He became the youngest quarterback in league history to win a playoff game. His season-long statistics, throwing for over 4100 yards and 23 Touchdowns, have set new franchise and rookie benchmarks. They have also led Stroud to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.
