Clete Blakeman born on June 23, 1964, is an American football official who works in the National Football League (NFL). He wears the uniform number 34. Before his officiating career began he played college football with the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as a backup quarterback from 1984 to 1987. Blakeman played in the Sugar Bowl in 1987 and won the game against the Southeastern Conference champion LSU. He continued his performance in the upcoming games and in a game against the Jayhawks where Nebraska beat them 70-0 he threw three touchdown passes and ran for another one. In the 1987 season in a game against Kansas, he completed 10-of-12 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown as Nebraska won 54–2.
His officiating career began in 2008 when he was hired by the NFL and served as a field judge from 2008-2009. He also worked in the 2009 AFC Wild Card game. In the 2010 season, he was promoted to referee. His career highlight came when he was chosen to be the referee of Super Bowl 50 between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers which was held at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. After becoming a referee he has been assigned to nine postseason games, which include three conference championship games and Super Bowl 50.
