The Browns welcomed the Cowboys to Cleveland for their opening Week 1 game of the 2024 NFL season. Both franchises made the playoffs last year but lost to first-year starting quarterbacks in the wild card round. Each was looking to improve on that.

It was billed as the matchup of the highest-paid quarterback, Dak Prescott, and a stellar regular-season offense against the reigning defensive player of the year, Myles Garrett, and the unit he was leading. In the first half, though, it was the Cowboys' defense, led by Micah Parsons, that kept putting Deshaun Watson under pressure.

It was so intense that going into the two-minute warning in the first half, the Browns had less than 50 yards of total offense. Even though the Browns improved a little after the second half, they could not claw back the damage and fell to a 33-17 loss. Have a look at how each player fared below.

Browns vs. Cowboys game summary

The Browns got the early points on board with a field goal with their first drive after forcing the Cowboys to punt in the first quarter, but it went downhill from there. Dallas hit back immediately with Brandin Cooks catching a pass from Dallas Prescott to go into the second quarter ahead 7-3.

Ezekiel Elliott scored on a short run to give them a 14-3 lead in the second quarter before a couple of field goals from Brandon Aubrey meant the halftime score was 20-3. It could have been worse had a 66-yard NFL record-tying field goal from the kicker not been called back for a delay-of-game penalty.

The second half could not have started in a worse way for the Browns as KaVontae Turpin returned a punt for 60 yards to give the Cowboys a 27-3 lead over the Browns.

However, that served as a reason for Deshaun Watson to try passing more, leading to Jerry Jeudy scoring his first touchdown in Cleveland to bring the margin down to 27-10. But another field goal by the faultless Aubrey meant that the score at the beginning of the fourth quarter was 30-10 in favor of Dallas.

The Cowboys eased up in the fourth quarter but still scored next on a field goal from 46 yards to go into a 33-10 lead. With the game long gone, the Browns scored a rushing touchdown within the two-minute warning to give the score more respectability, with the final reading 33-17 in favor of Dallas.
