Clyde Edwards-Helaire injury update: Fantasy outlook for the Kansas City Chiefs' RB

Clyde Edwards-Helaire started the season as the starting running back for the Kansas City Chiefs, however, was supplanted recently by Isiah Pacheco. Edwards-Helaire has seen his touches drop significantly and then injured his ankle in Week 11 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Edwards-Helaire was unfortunately struck with a high ankle sprain. This injury is concerning for Edwards-Helaire, who could be in danger of being cut in the near future. With running backs being released at an increased rate of late (Melvin Gordon, Darrell Henderson, Eno Benjamin), seeing the now-third string Edwards-Helaire being let go wouldn't be a huge surprise.

The news is also worrisome for his fantasy owners. With the Chiefs backfield a movable feast, Edwards-Helaire was worth holding onto. However, with the running back likely to miss multiple weeks and see dramatically reduced snaps, his fantasy value has hit an all-time low.

Edwards-Helaire left the locker room on Sunday with his right ankle in a walking boot. The running back's status is blurry as this weekend's game against the Los Angeles Rams approaches. He is far too risky to start in NFL fantasy, as the combination of questionable injury status and sliding down the depth chart is just too much.

Potential replacements for Clyde-Edwards Helaire

Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon look set to split carries in Kansas City's backfield. Pacheco is the obvious choice and if he is available, you should pick him up.

Other players you may be able to pick up include Cam Akers and Samaje Perine. The Los Angeles Rams just released Henderson, so Akers is set to see more of the ball. Joe Mixon is questionable ahead of Week 11, and as Perine shone against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he could well be on for a big week.

How has Clyde Edwards-Helaire performed this season?

Clyde Edwards-Helaire has never had to do too much as a running back with the Kansas City Chiefs. The reason being is that the team operates on an almost exclusive pass-first offense, and Patrick Mahomes hardly hands off the ball to running backs.

He has done pretty decently this year, playing some of the best football since getting drafted into the league. The year three RB is putting up a stat line of three rushing touchdowns in 71 carries for 302 rushing yards. He has also caught three touchdown passes from Mahomes for 151 receiving yards.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire career stats

Clyde Edwards-Helaire was drafted straight out of Louisiana State University, where he was an asset for the LSU Tigers. He was selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Chiefs.

Throughout his career, Clyde Edwards-Helaire has presented respectable stats across the board. He has recorded 371 rushing attempts for 1,622 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. Edwards-Helaire has been almost as effective catching the ball, racking up 72 receptions for 577 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.
