Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who was placed on the non-football illness list to start the season, was scheduled to return to practice on Wednesday, according to a confirmation from Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. However, the Chiefs didn't practice on Wednesday, so no report was released.

On Thursday, the team released its first injury report of the week ahead of the crucial Week 5 primetime game against the New Orleans Saints. Edwards-Helaire was back at the Chiefs' practice field on Thursday, but the team still listed him as DNP on the injury report. However, he still has Friday and Saturday to log a practice participation before the Chiefs' Monday night game against New Orleans.

Reports indicate that Edwards-Helaire's health will be evaluated over the next few days before determining his availability for Monday's game. He will try to earn a spot in the Chiefs' backfield, which currently includes Kareem Hunt, Samaje Perine, and Carson Steele.

The Chiefs' No. 1 option at running back is actually Isiah Pacheco, but he has been placed on injured reserve due to a fibula injury suffered against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and ESPN's Adam Schefter, Pacheco is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks due to the injury.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire's injury update: What happened to the Chiefs' RB?

The Kansas City Chiefs placed Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the NFI list last month because of the difficulties he was experiencing from chronic vomiting syndrome and post-traumatic stress disorder. The wideout opened up about his struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder during training camp.

The former first-round draft pick has reportedly battled PTSD ever since an event at LSU in 2018. It is also said that he has experienced episodes throughout his NFL career.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire missed two preseason games and got very little playing time in the one game he participated in. He also missed significant time during training camp.

The significance of Edwards-Helaire starting the season on the NFI list is that he'd be ineligible to play until Week 5, thus he was not available for the Chiefs in games against the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Chargers.

CEH has been designated to practice with the Chiefs again this week. However, some patience may be needed to follow the team's precise plan for his next chapter.
