The 2023 NFL draft is just around the corner as teams look to bolster their roster and depth at crucial positions. Many teams are in the market for a quarterback in this year's draft, as some teams lack the aforementioned depth. Two such teams are the Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons.
Last season, the Commanders went 8-8-1, finishing last in the NFC East. Their offense threw 16 interceptions, the fifth-most in the 2022 season, while finishing in the bottom 10 of the league on completion percentage (62.1%).
The Falcons finished near the bottom of the league last season in passing yards (2,699), passing attempts (415) and completion percentage (61.9%). They finished with a 7-10 record, last in the NFC South. Overall, the quarterback play for both franchises was hard to watch in the 2022 season.

Carson Wentz, Taylor Heinicke and Sam Howell all started for the Washington Commanders last season. This offseason, Washington cut Wentz while Heinicke signed with the Atlanta Falcons. However, the Commanders signed Jacoby Brissett this offseason to replace Heinicke.
The Falcons had Marcus Mariota start 13 games while rookie Desmond Ridder was under center for the final four games. Atlanta let Mariota walk this offseason and signed Heinicke.
Both teams still have time to upgrade at quarterback but, as it stands now, Howell and Ridder are in line to start the 2023 season. The signings of Brissett and Heinicke are meant to add depth for the Commanders and Falcons, respectively. On paper, though, both teams might add some more quarterback help via the draft.
Will either team go QB in the 2023 NFL Draft?
Looking at the 2023 NFL draft, the Falcons sit with the eighth overall pick as Atlanta is in prime position to grab a quarterback should they decide to do so. Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud and possibly Anthony Richardson could be off the board by the eighth pick.
Will Levis of Kentucky might be an option to add some competition to the Falcons' quarterback room. The Commanders currently have the No. 18 selection in the draft and need to move into the top 10 to get a top-tier signal caller.
However, they could wait to get a quarterback on Day 2 to help with the quarterback situation in Washington. As it stands now, Atlanta and Washington must address their needs at quarterback before the 2023 NFL draft. Right now, it's looking bleak for each team.
