Cowboys Playoff fantasy outlook: Who will Dallas play in the 2023 NFL postseason?

The Dallas Cowboys made it to the playoffs for the second consecutive year, having lost in Week 15.

The NFL playoffs will feature 14 participants for the third season in a row. The 2023 postseason will include seven sides from each conference, with the top seed in each conference being the only club to get a bye.

Additionally, the NFL playoffs have been moved back one week for the second straight year due to the league introducing a 17-game calendar in 2021 and continuing that pattern in 2022. The Super Bowl will therefore take place on the second Sunday in February rather than the first.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers would play the Dallas Cowboys in the wildcard games if the regular season ended today.

The NFL postseason placement for 2023 is decided straightforwardly. Postseason NFL teams increased from 12 to 14 franchises. The number one in the AFC and NFC conferences will secure the first-round bye and have a home-ground benefit in the divisional stage.

The second-seeded club will play the seventh-seeded team in the third wildcard round. In the wildcard round, the third-seeded team will play the sixth-seeded team, while the fourth-seeded team will face the fifth-seeded team.

Where will the Dallas Cowboys finish?

Considering the Cowboys' stellar season, they are unlikely to be able to secure a top-four slot as the Eagles will probably win the NFC East.

They are unlikely to win the NFC East in the next few games, but will probably fill a Wild Card berth. Dallas must prevail in all remaining three matches to get a chance at winning the NFC East.

They will also need the Philadelphia Eagles to lose their last three contests. Ironically, the two sides will compete against each other in Week 16. Dallas hosts the Eagles this week before traveling to face the Tennessee Titans in Week 17 and the Washington Commanders in the last game of the year.

On January 8, 2023, the NFL regular season will have concluded after week 18, and each squad will have played a total of 17 games. The wildcard stage, which begins on Saturday, January 14, and ends two days after, will serve as the opening phase of the NFL Postseason.

The team will be participating in the postseason for the second time in succession. Last year, the Cowboys won the conference after securing a postseason berth in Week 16. With a 12-5 campaign, they earned the No. 3 seed in the NFC but were defeated by the San Francisco 49ers in the wildcard phase.
