D'Andre Swift was supposed to be the running back upgrade for the Chicago Bears in the nascent Caleb Williams era. After all, he had been a surprise Pro Bowler after hitting 1,000 yards for the first time in his career in his only season with the Phladelphia Eagles.
Early on, it appeared as if he would fail to fulfill that potential, averagint just 1.8 yards per carry in his first three games. But then in Week 4, he finally found his footing, covering 93 yards and scoring a touchdown on 16 carries (as well as catching all his seven targets) against the Los Angeles Rams.
Ten games later, Swift and the Bears visited California's other NFC teaem, the San Francisco 49ers, in their first game since firing Matt Eberflus - the first time a head coach had been ditched midseason in franchise history. How did he fare?

D'Andre Swift's stats today vs 49ers
For the third straight game, D'Andre Swift was terrible, posting thse measly stats:
- Rushing attempts: 14
- Rushing yards: 38
- Receptions: 1
- Receiving yards: 2
The 49ers, simply put, shut him down. He was simply unable to get going - in a scene reminiscent of his first three games with the team.
It ruined what should have been a stellar night for rookie Rome Odunze, who was responsible for the Bears’ only two scores of the day. But it was not as if the man feeding him those balls was any good, either. Caleb Williams managed just 134 yards on seventeen completions and was sacked four times by the same unit that destroyed the ground game.
Back to Swift, his task does not get any easier. All but one of his next three assignments are intradivision, and that stretch starts with none other than the Minnesota Vikings, who are among the best at stopping the run, having led the league in fewest rushing yards allowed until today against the Atlanta Falcons.
The other two rivals, the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers, are also currently in the top ten, so he might not be able to hit even 900 yards for the season, let alone a thousand, if their defenses get to him fast and often.
