Dalton Kincaid or Trey McBride: Week 3 Start 'Em Sit 'Em projections

The drought continued for tight ends in fantasy football through Week 2, and with injuries also piling up early in the season, it's probably time to look at alternate options to the top-tier at the position. As we enter Week 3, here's what Dalton Kincaid and Trey McBride are likely to have in store.

Dalton Kincaid fantasy projection for Week 3

Sigh. We had high hopes for Dalton Kincaid. Top-5 hopes, even. After two weeks of football, those hopes are dust.

The Bills have turned to the run game more often so far. Through two weeks of football, they've thrown 42 passes. While Buffalo has picked up wins against the Cardinals and the Dolphins, a run-heavy approach doesn't bode well for Kincaid.

Per CBS, Kincaid is still tied second for targets at 14.6% alongside rookie wideout Keon Coleman. But considering they are throwing less often, it's not looking good for Kincaid's fantasy value. Being a low-volume tight end isn't a crime in fantasy football, but the Bills aren't throwing the ball to Kincaid anywhere near the end zone.

For Kincaid to have any upside, Josh Allen will have to throw the ball more, and at present, that doesn't appear to be on the table. Sooner or later, the Bills will have to pivot from their run-heavy approach, but until we see it happen, we're out on Kincaid.

Trey McBride fantasy projection for Week 3

McBride is the undisputed TE1 heading into Week 3. There was a school of thought that Marvin Harrison Jr. would disrupt McBride's production.

That hasn't been the case through two weeks of football. His efficiency has dipped a little, but there's nothing that's any cause for alarm. The Cardinals go up against the Detroit Lions, and that's likely to be one of those games that ends in a shootout.

We'll see if McBride can hang on to the TE1 spot with Brock Bowers' production on the rise and George Kittle out injured, There's not much to say for McBride other than the fact that he's been among the most consistent tight ends in a year where we're seeing more and more TEs get their production taken away for one reason or another. Heading into Week 3, McBride is likely to continue his run as TE1.

Dalton Kincaid or Trey McBride: Final verdict

Sportskeeda's Start 'Em Sit 'Em analyzer is leaning heavily towards McBride and we're inclined to agree.

Dalton Kincaid may yet fulfill his potential as a top tight end in the league, but this appears to be a puzzling year for the Bills offense. Considering the Jaguars have also been a tricky matchup for tight ends, McBride gets the easy nod in Week 3.
