What is Darius Slay's 40 time?

Darius Slay plays for the Philadelphia Eagles as the Cornerback for the team. In 2017 Slay had arguably his best season so far in his decade-long career. His eight receptions led the league in 2017 and was named first-team all-pro in the same season. Pro Football Focus gave Slay an overall grade of 80.6 which was ranked 16th at the time in 2017. Slay is a highly respected cornerback who is one of the 100 best players in the league.

When we talk about his skills, Slay has elite coverage skills with good footwork and the ability to mirror receivers in and out of the breaks. He excels at press coverages and can disrupt routes as good as they come. Slay also has a knack for finding the ball which is evident by his 28 career interceptions. On top of everything else is his physicality Slay uses to engage in press coverage and tackle in run support. Last but not least is the leadership and experience he brings to the Eagles. Slay has been in the NFL for 11 years and counting. He is a vocal leader on the field and has a competitive spirit that sets high standards for himself and his teammates.

Slay is 32 years of age (as of December 2023) and father time has always remained unbeaten. While he has not shown much signs of slowing down, one does wonder if his athleticism is starting to take a hit. While he is accurate in press coverage, Slay may not be as effective when it comes to zone coverage.

The Eagles are currently on a losing streak and have suddenly fallen off the ranks after being the favorites to win the Super Bowl for many weeks. It is the first time that the Eagles had back-to-back defeats since Jalen Hurts has been the quarterback for them. Their defensive side of the field has looked terrible. Slay and the rest of the squad need to get back to their previous form for them to have postseason success.

Slay ran the 40-yard dash at 4.36 seconds which is remarkable considering he did not even prepare for the dash. In the ALL THINGS COVERED podcast with Patrick Peterson and BMAC, Slay claimed that he did not train or prepare for his 40-yard dash. He claimed that he only did drills and tried to workout to stay in shape but he knew that he was already blessed with speed.

While many guys try to figure out how to run in the most optimum way, Slay said that he did not even use any technique for his 40-yard dash and just tilted his head back and ran as fast as he could with natural talent. When Bryant McFadden asked about what the recorded speed could have been had Slay trained, he replied “They said 4.31 seconds unofficial but I may have ran at 4.33 (seconds) or something like that.”
