Darnell Mooney or Tee Higgins Week 6 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Fantasy Football projections for WRs

Darnell Mooney or Tee Higgins - whom to fantasy start?
Darnell Mooney or Tee Higgins - whom to fantasy start?

Darnell Mooney and Tee Higgins are both clear WR2s in their team, sitting behind a more promising player with superstar potential. But without them, the offense will lack someone who can lighten the focal point's burden.

In Week 6, both players are squaring off against opponents whose secondaries are not known for being among the strongest in the league. So who has the better value and thus should be on a fantasy roster?

Darnell Mooney was monstrously productive in Week 5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, tallying 105 yards and two touchdowns (his first-ever time doing so) from just nine receptions. And he has a good chance of replicating such numbers this coming week.

The Carolina Panthers have arguably been the NFC South's weakest defense of late. Losing Brian Burns to the Carolina Panthers was already a major blow, but then they also lost Derrick Brown to a season-ending meniscal injury in their very first game of 2024. And then last week, they lost veteran linebacker/nickelback Shaq Thompson to a season-ending Achilles tear.

In fact, the only player worth picking on that squad is Jadeveon Clowney. And as mentioned before, the secondary is in a poor state, giving Mooney a large window to dominate.

In the previous loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Tee Higgins was the Cincinnati Bengals' second-best receiver, catching nine passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns in a complementary role to Ja'Marr Chase, who dominated with 193 and also two from ten.

He should have more opportunities to dominate against the New York Giants, who have one of the worst defensive backfields in the NFC East. However, they have another way to stop him: prevent the pass in the first place.

Joe Burrow has historically had a problem with sacks, leading the league in them during his 2021 Super Bowl run. Nose tackle Dexter Lawrence commands a monstrous pass-rushing group bannered by Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns that can pose problems for the offensive line and deny Higgins even the chance to get a ball.

Whom should I start between Darnell Mooney and Tee Higgins?

According to Sportskeeda's Start/Sit Optimizer, Tee Higgins remains the better player to use on a fantasy football team despite the better defensive quality of his opponents.

He is still one of the best WR2s in all of football even with his recent injury history, having been an integral part of the Bengals' Super Bowl run in 2021 and posted consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.

Darnell Mooney, on the other hand, has had just one such campaign; and he has yet to play in a postseason game (he got injured in the 2020 season finale and had to miss the Wild Card loss at the New Orleans Saints).

He has also had worse nadirs than his counterpart - dipping well below 500 yards towards the end of his stint in Chicago, while Higgins managed just over 600 in the last year of his rookie contract.
