Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers have developed a camaraderie on the football field, be it for the New York Jets or the Green Bay Packers. Though they haven’t had the best of times at their new home, they shared an impressive record at the Packers camp, so much so that an injury to Adams opened a door of opportunities for other WRs on the team.
Back in October 2019, The Athletic interviewed Adams after he missed three straight games due to a toe injury. The Packers were set to face the Kansas City Chiefs, most probably without Adams, but their offense was doing wonders without him. In the previous three games, they averaged 33 points and 421 yards per game.
“I see how it is,” Adams said. “It has opened up more opportunities for other people. It’s gotten the quarterback used to consistently making plays with other guys. And that obviously builds his connection with them, which is important.”
Adams was aware that his bond with Rodgers got stronger the more they played. Although he wouldn’t want to sacrifice his position in the offense, he was happy to see the performance, which he describes as a blessing in disguise for the Packers.

Aaron Rodgers acknowledges Davante Adams as his favorite target
Davante Adams was undoubtedly Aaron Rodgers’ favorite target, as the latter had targeted Adams 169 times in 2018, a stat that didn’t perturb Rodgers at all. When asked why he didn’t spread the ball around more so as not to make the play Adams-centric, he responded unhesitatingly.
“He’s that open,” Rodgers said. “We’ve got to keep finding ways to get him the ball. There’s nothing wrong with having a go-to guy who’s that dynamic and trying to find ways to get him the ball.”
Rodgers isn’t wrong, as his statement is backed up by the statistics. By the time of his injury, Adams caught 25 passes for 378 yards despite his slightly poor form in the prior games. Meanwhile, other receivers accounted for only 25 receptions for 305 yards. So, in a way, the Adams' absence makes it easier for the other WRs to perform.
However, Rodgers was sure that Adams would find his place back in the team when he was fit.
“I can promise you we need him, and we’re a better offense with ‘17’ on the field,” he added.
Amidst this, Rodgers, too, was happy about the progress his teammates were making while displaying their talent.
