Running back David Montgomery departed the Detroit Lions' game against the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday due to a shoulder injury. However, he said after the game that he would return for the team's Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Chicago Bears.

Montgomery also said that he felt well enough to play again following his injury in Week 12, but the team decided against it at that time.

Montgomery was listed as a nonparticipant on the Lions' practice report on Monday, but the team only held a walkthrough to start the week in a short week.

Coach Dan Campbell said on the Detroit sports radio program "Costa & Jansen with Heather" on Tuesday that Montgomery and a few other players, including offensive tackle Taylor Decker and wide receiver/kick returner Kalif Raymond, are questionable for Thanksgiving football.

Campbell also added Montgomery's situation is better than that of other injured players.

David Montgomery's status is worth keeping an eye on throughout the week. In order to play against the Bears, he might have to participate in at least a limited amount of practice on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The 27-year-old running back has amassed 145 rushing attempts, 632 rushing yards, and 11 rushing touchdowns in 11 games this season. He has also added 24 receptions for 241 receiving yards.

The Lions will continue to use Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs in their two-headed rushing system on Thursday, provided his injury is mild and he plays. However, fantasy managers should expect Gibbs to take on more responsibility in Detroit's backfield if the sixth-year running back is ultimately unable to play against the Bears.

David Montgomery injury update: What happened to the Lions' RB?

In an attempt to spin out of a tackle on a play in the third quarter of the Detroit Lions Week 12 game, David Montgomery sunk his shoulder into an Indianapolis Colts defender.

He appeared to be unhurt and stood up right away, but he did leave the game after the play. The star running back was seen leaving for the locker room without his pads on Fox's telecast a few moments after he left the field.

Montgomery ultimately made his way back to the sidelines, but the Lions deemed his return questionable due to a shoulder injury.

Montgomery missed the whole fourth quarter of the game and did not return. After the game, though, he revealed that he could re-entered the game if Dan Campbell hadn't insisted against it.

Campbell believed they had "bigger fish to fry," according to Montgomery, as the Lions were ahead 21–6 at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
