David Montgomery is an American football running back playing for the Detroit Lions of the NFL as of 2024. He began his NFL career with the Chicago Bears after being selected as the 73rd overall pick in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Before joining the Lions in the 2023 offseason, he spent his first four years with the Bears. His NFL career started as the backup as he only started 8 games in his first season. Montgomery had his first 1,000-yard season in his sophomore campaign when he racked up 1,070 yards on the ground. He followed that up with back-to-back 800-yard rushing seasons and was rewarded by a 3-year $18 million contract given by the Lions in the 2023 offseason.
Revisiting the early years of Montgomery’s life, he was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. His football career began at Mount Healthy Jr/Sr High School in his home state. David accumulated a total of 6,666 yards, and 91 touchdowns in his high school and was named Division III Ohio Player of the Year along with Southwest District Offensive Player of the Year. He added almost 3000 yards on the ground during his collegiate career at Iowa State University after starting only 4 games in his true freshman season in 2016.
