On Wednesday, Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson gave an update on Njoku.
"I think he (Njoku) a big part of this system," Watson said. "Exactly what we want to do and what we were planning to do, you know, with the start of the season, but I know he's been out for the last couple weeks, and you know, it'd be good to have him back. We'll see how this week goes, and we're definitely excited if he can make it to the game."
Njoku injured his ankle in the third quarter of Cleveland's season opener. He made a 29-yard catch-and-run but then moved gingerly on the sidelines. He went to the medical tent for some treatment before heading into the locker room. The Browns said that Njoku was questionable to return and he ultimately did not play again. He had four catches for 44 yards.
Njoku then missed three consecutive games for the Browns after it was announced that he suffered a high ankle sprain. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen how he trains this week ahead of a potential return in Week 5.
