Sunday marked the second straight weekend that tight end David Njoku was not in the lineup for the Cleveland Browns due to an ankle ailment.

The star tight end has become an important component of the Browns' system, and his absence has made fans concerned about the offensive scheme of the team.

Njoku did not take part in any of the Browns' practices prior to the game against the New York Giants last week. He is expected to participate in practice this week, though, according to Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot.

David Njoku isn't in practice on Wednesday, according to Cabot, but fantasy managers and Browns supporters can can expect him to put in some work in practice on Thursday or Friday. If he does, there's a good chance he'll be considered to play in the Browns' Week 4 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

Njoku has only suited up for one game this season, and it was for the Week 1 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The tight end hauled in four passes for 44 yards in that game. Since then, the ankle issue has kept him out of games against the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars.

David Njoku injury update: What happened to the Browns tight end?

David Njoku suffered an ankle injury in the Cleveland Browns' Week 1 matchup against the Cowboys when he was caught off guard by an opposing defender. After that, he fell to the ground and left the field.

After the tight end's injury, Kevin Stefanski, the head coach of the Browns, stated that Njoku would be assessed week to week..

Stefanksi stated at the beginning of last week that he wouldn't completely rule out Njoku participating against the Giants. But after Njoku did not practice on Wednesday and Thursday, the head coach informed reporters that it was unlikely the TE would return.

According to reports on Wednesday, the tight end is expected to work out later this week, which gives some optimism that he might be able to play again very soon. In the event that Njoku is still sidelined come Week 4, Jordan Akins will continue to lead the Browns' tight end unit in their game against the Raiders.
