David Njoku was on the Cleveland Browns injury report on Thursday with an ankle/hand designation. The fact that he did not participate in practice was a big concern for Browns fans and fantasy managers.
In Week 8, Njoku was instrumental in Cleveland's thrilling victory over the Baltimore Ravens. He made some great catches to help quarterback Jameis Winston get into tempo, but he missed Thursday's practice due to the same ankle issue that has plagued him this season.
Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot said on Thursday that Njoku is not officially declared out of the Week 9 game against the LA Chargers.
She then reported on Friday that Njoku has returned to practice, which is a positive development for his chances of playing against Jim Harbaugh's team on Sunday.

Njoku's contributions on the field, which extend beyond his ability to catch passes, have made him a vital part of the Browns' offense this season. He is a strong weapon on the sidelines for some quick yardage gains and also a good blocker. The news that he returned to practice on Friday is a big boost for Cleveland, who will be looking to make it two wins in a row in Week 9.
David Njoku has already missed time with injury this season
David Njoku sprained his ankle against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, which forced him to miss the games against the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders in Weeks 2, 3 and 4.
The Browns had to rely on Jordan Akins in those games. While Njoku was sidelined, Akins caught six passes on 10 targets for 49 yards.
Njoku made his comeback against the Washington Commanders in Week 5, but he was limited in that game, recording only one catch for 14 yards.
However, he looked like he was back at his best against the Baltimore Ravens last week. He was targeted by Winston seven times and scored a touchdown and amassed 61 yards. He helped the Browns win 29-24 — their first victory in six games.
When they play the Chargers on Sunday, the Browns will be hoping for another strong showing from Njoku, if he's cleared to play. He recorded seven catches for 149 yards and a touchdown in the Browns’ 47-42 loss to the Chargers in December 2021.
