David Njoku

David Njoku is an American football tight end who currently plays for the Cleveland Browns. Playing a crucial role and contributing significantly, the Browns’ tight end, Njoku has shown versatility and brilliance on the field in the National Football League.

His football journey began at Cedar Grove High School in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. During high school years, he recorded 76 receptions for 1,794 rushing yards and secured 19 touchdowns. As a three-star recruit, he received numerous offers from Boston College, Ohio State University and Temple University; however, he ultimately chose to play college football at the University of Miami. At Miami, he played for the Miami Hurricanes from 2014 to 2016, concluding his collegiate career with over 1,000 yards, 64 receptions and 9 touchdowns.

After the 2016 season, he entered the 2017 NFL Draft, opting out of his remaining two years of eligibility. Having completed all the required combine and positional drills in the 2017 NFL combine, he also performed at Miami’s Pro Day. Taking his performance into account, he was projected as the first-round pick by the experts. Additionally, Sports Illustrated ranked him as the third-best tight end, whereas ESPN ranked him as the second-best tight end available in the draft.

As projected, Njoku was the 29th overall pick in the first round by the Browns in the 2017 NFL Draft. Since the beginning, he has remained with the team. During the 2023 campaign, Njoku delivered a spectacular performance, recording career highs with 882 receiving yards, 81 receptions and six touchdowns in all 16 games. Furthermore, he earned the first Pro Bowl selection of his career.

Everyone’s eyebrows raised upon spotting Njoku wearing a ‘Villain Mask’ in October 2023 after suffering from facial burns. He wore a flesh-coloured mask that covered his face entirely. During the warm-up session prior to the game against the Baltimore Ravens, he switched to a black mask. He received mixed reactions all over social media platforms for this bizarre appearance.

How Did David Njoku Get Burned?

Reportedly, on September 29, 2023, Njoku got caught in a home fire while lighting up a fire pit at his home. His face, wrist and arm got burned. He was announced as questionable by the Browns on 30 September 2023 due to suffering burns, however, he played in the game against the Ravens on 1 October 2023.

On his official Instagram account under the username @chiefnjoku, he shared his experience and its effects. He posted pictures displaying his facial burn.
