De'Von Achane had a productive rookie season with the Miami Dolphins in 2023. The speedy running back put up a stat line of 800 rushing yards and eight touchdowns and showcased his potential to be a future RB1 in the NFL.
However, injuries always seemed to hold back Achane from doing more in coach Mike McDaniel's high-octane offense. So, ahead of the Dolphins' Thursday night game against the Buffalo Bills, let's take a look at an update on the versatile RB.
De'Von Achane's injury update
According to Pro Football Network, De'Von Achane sustained an ankle injury in his team's Week 1 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Achane had a decent season opener, accounting for six carries for 24 yards and a touchdown while adding seven catches for 76 yards. However, he was listed as DNP on the Dolphins injury report on Monday.

Deepak Chona, MD of Sports Med Analytics, believes that Achane suffered a mild high ankle injury. At the moment, Achane should be leaning more toward playing, even though the quick turnaround increases the risk of re-injury. The Dolphins' Tuesday practice session is key to Achane's availability or otherwise.
What happened to De'Von Achane?
De'Von Achane was his typical busy self on the ground and in the air, as he helped the Dolphins win their first game of the season. The Dolphins defeated the Jaguars 20-17, putting them in the win column ahead of a tricky matchup against AFC powerhouses, the Buffalo Bills.
Achane sustained his injury at some point during the game, even though he finished the game. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, their Pro Bowl running back Raheem Mostert also sustained an injury against the Jaguars. Mostert is reportedly dealing with a chest injury heading into the TNF game.
Both players are expected to attend Tuesday's practice, and it is their performance in practice that will decide whether they'll play in Week 2 or not. However, if any or both of them are deemed unable to perform, then expect either one or both veteran Jeff Wilson Jr. and fourth-round rookie Jaylen Wright to play on Thursday.
If the Dolphins are without their star running back duo of Achane and Mostert, then expect Mike McDaniel to prioritize getting the ball through the air to Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, two of the fastest pass catchers in the NFL.
