DeAndre Hopkins contract and salary details: How much could Chiefs owe 5x Pro Bowler after shock trade?

According to ESPN, DeAndre Hopkins is taking his talents to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Tennessee Titans are trading the five-time Pro Bowler to the Chiefs for a fifth-round pick that can become a fourth-round pick.

This trade comes after the Chiefs suffered numerous injuries to their wide receiver crop. The two-time reigning Super Bowl champions lost Marquise "Hollywood" Brown to a shoulder injury in preseason, Rashee Rice to a season-ending knee injury in Week 4 and JuJu Smith-Schuster to a hamstring injury just last week.

It left Xavier Worthy as the only prominent wide receiver on the roster before the addition of Hopkins.

How much could the Kansas City Chiefs pay DeAndre Hopkins?

According to Spotrac, DeAndre Hopkins has $8,000,000 left in the final year of his $26 million contract with the Titans. It is largely believed that Tennessee will retain a portion of his salary per this trade with the Chiefs, who currently have about $4,000,000 of cap space in 2024. That means that the Chiefs could pay part but not all of the $8,000,000 left on his deal.

Hopkins has earned $139,457,889 in his professional career, and all that's seemingly left on a potential Hall of Fame résumé is a Super Bowl trophy. He couldn't have joined a better franchise to pursue his first ring.

Why did the Chiefs get DeAndre Hopkins?

The Kansas City Chiefs made the trade for DeAndre Hopkins due to an injury crisis at the wide receiver position. The Chiefs are currently missing three senior wideouts: Brown, Rice and Smith-Schuster. Adding a 12-year veteran Pro Bowl caliber wide receiver in the final season of a two-year deal could prove to be a masterstroke at the business end of the season.

According to Tankathon, the 6-0 Chiefs have the 23rd strongest strength of schedule in the league. They still have regular-season games against AFC rivals Las Vegas Raiders (×2), Denver Broncos (×2), Los Angeles Chargers, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers. I

t'll be interesting to see how Andy Reid navigates the potential return of Marquise "Hollywood" Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster in the coming weeks or months.
