Deebo Samuel and the 49ers started the game against the Dolphins knowing that they will not feature in the postseason after results went against them earlier on Sunday. However, they both had a lot to prove. San Francisco wanted to show that they could fight against another team still chasing a playoff spot.
Deebo Samuel, meanwhile, needed this game after spending 10 days waiting for a chance to right some wrongs from the previous week. He missed a catch-and-score in Week 15 against the Rams and now was his opportunity to prove all those doubters wrong who were saying that he has regressed. This is how he fared against Miami.
Deebo Samuel's stats today vs Dolphins
A summary of Deebo Samuel's stats for the 49ers against the Dolphins in Week 16 of the 2024 NFL season is given below.

Deebo Samuel was effective in both the running and the passing game and ended up with 121 yards from the line of scrimmage, which was the highest amongst the 49ers' offensive players. Unfortunately, it was not enough for a win as the Dolphins defeated the 49ers 29-17.
That was not for the wide receiver not trying, though. Early in the game, Miami was leading 3-0 at the beginning of the second quarter. With San Francisco in the red zone, Brock Purdy threw a pass to Samuel and he was short of the first down when he caught it. Deebo not only picked up the first down but broke through the combined efforts of three tacklers to go into the endzone and give his team a 7-3 lead.
Deebo Samuel has been at fault sometimes this season for the woeful campaign the 49ers have had in 2024. However, today he could only sit and watch as his defense failed to stop the Dolphins from keeping the scoreboard ticking with field goals.
More infuriatingly, though, he caught a pass in the second half again that could have set up a first-and-goal. Instead, the referees called it back for a penalty on Ricky Pearsall for lining up wrongly, after the rookie wide receiver had previously made the same mistake on the same drive. His mood would not have improved after Jake Moody shanked the ensuing 41-yard field goal attempt.
To his credit, Deebo Samuel kept trying until the end. Even after Brock Purdy was intercepted and De'Von Achance had scored in the two-minute warning to give the Dolphins a 29-17 lead, the 49ers wide receiver did not let his head go down. He had his biggest reception of 27 yards in that period as they struggled to claw back the deficit. It proved to be in vain but the San Francisco star atoned for his previous mistakes this season.
The same could not be said about the others and the 49ers ended the match officially out of postseason contention.
