Deion Sanders is one of the most accomplished and widely known names in the world of sports. Whether it came to football, baseball, or coaching, Deion has flourished in every aspect of each task. Also known as "Prime Time," is a former two-sport athlete who achieved success in both baseball and football. What injury did Deion Sanders have?

In 2021, Deion Sanders had to get two of his toes amputated. The big toe and the toe next to it were removed from his left foot after he developed three femoral arterial blood clots and required surgery. Femoral arterial blood clots, also known as femoral artery thrombosis, occur when a blood clot forms in the femoral artery, which is a major blood vessel located in the thigh.

This injury blocks blood flow to the lower extremities. Femoral arterial blood clots can be caused by various factors, including atherosclerosis (hardening and narrowing of the arteries), blood clotting disorders, trauma or injury to the artery, or prolonged immobility. Risk factors may include obesity, smoking, older age, a history of blood clots, and certain medical conditions.

The full procedure was shown on his Coach Prime series. It was reported that the blood clot began in his calf.

What is Deion Sanders doing currently?

As of 2024, Deion Sanders is the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, who belonged to the PAC-12 Conference of the NCAA’s (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division 1 FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision). However, since 2024, Buffaloes have moved to the Big-12 conference. In his first year at Colorado, Sanders was able to weave his magic as the previously 1-8 Colorado Buffaloes managed to win 4 of their 12 games in 2023, which was a 3-game improvement over 2022.
