Derek Carr is an American football quarterback for the New Orleans Saints. Football was in his DNA as his family moved with his oldest brother, David Carr after he became a member of the Houston Texans. Starting office football at Clemens High School in Sugar Land, he became a backup quarterback on the varsity team. However, an untimely injury would thrust him into the starting position. However, it was his junior year when Carr took off, leading his team to an undefeated 13-0 season. In 2008, Carr transferred to Bakersfield Christian High School and immediately led the team to a 12-1 record as well as the California Interscholastic Federation Central Section Division V Championship. Eventually, he joined Fresno State, where his brother, David Carr, had also played as quarterback.

After getting redshirted his freshman season, he joined the starting lineup for the Bulldogs in 2010. Further, he also received the 2013 CFPA elite quarterback award for his performance over three seasons at Fresno State. Making his way to the NFL. He was selected by the Oakland Raiders (now Las Vegas Raiders) in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft, with the 36th overall pick. From there on, Carr became a staple of the Raiders organization, earning 4 Pro Bowl selections as of September 2024. Further, he also took the team to its first playoff berth in 2016, and second time in 2021. After a disappointing 2022 campaign, Derek was released by the Raiders. He then went on to sign a four-year $150 million contract with the New Orleans Saints that reunited him with his former head coach, Dennis Allen. In his first year with the Saints in 2023, he finished the season throwing for 25 touchdowns to just 8 interceptions but the team missed the playoffs. Over his 10-year career, he's also amassed upwards of 39,000 passing yards as of 2024.
