New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr's season could be over. After suffering an arm injury in the team's Week 14 win against the New York Giants, Carr missed last week's game against the Washington Commanders.
Upon further examination, Carr is at least a few weeks away from being healthy enough to play with what is a left-hand fracture.
NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday morning that Carr's season is likely over.

"Derek Carr underwent further examination recently and he’s at least a few weeks away from being able to withstand contact. With 3 weeks remaining, a return this season is described as very unlikely. Carr has been out with a left hand fractured in two places."
At 5-9 and with just three games left this season, there's no reason for Carr to try to return to the field for one or two more games. The risk isn't worth it with the Saints out of the playoff picture and with Carr looking to get healthier from the injury.
With Carr expected to miss the upcoming Monday night game against the Packers, backup Spencer Rattler is expected to start over Jake Haener.
Could the New Orleans Saints move on from Derek Carr this offseason?
During the 2023 offseason, Derek Carr signed a four-year $150 million deal with the New Orleans Saints. He played a full season last year going 9-8 as a starter and throwing for 3,878 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The Saints just missed the playoffs.
Carr threw for 2,145 yards, 15 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in 10 games for the Saints this season. The Saints are likely to miss the playoffs for a second straight year.
Carr will be 34 by the start of next season and has missed time this season due to injuries. While he's a quality quarterback, he hasn't done anything in the last few years that has New Orleans confident in chasing a Super Bowl run.
The Saints will also hire a new coach this offseason and could be headed in a new direction. Moving on from Carr could be an option, but it would be costly.
Moving on from Carr would result in a $51 million dead cap hit for the Saints. They're already around $78 million over the cap.
