Derek Dallas Carr, commonly known as Derek Carr is an American football quarterback for the New Orleans Saints as of 2024. The 11-year veteran signal-caller was drafted by the Oakland Raiders (now Las Vegas Raiders) with the 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft. Carr has not thrown for less than 3k yards in any of his pro seasons as of December 2024. His best years with the Raiders came in the 2016 and 2021 seasons when he led the franchise to 12 and 10 wins respectively. Carr also has 4 consecutive 4k passing yards seasons from 2018-2021. However, after the 2022 season, the Raiders parted ways with their quarterback in 2023 and Derek signed a 4-year contract worth $150 million with the New Orleans Saints that offseason. He went on to achieve 3,878 passing yards while also throwing for 25 touchdowns in his first year in New Orleans. However, even with a 9-8 record, Saints missed the playoffs.
Carr, born in Bakersfield, California is the younger brother of David Carr, former NFL quarterback who went 1st overall in the 2002 NFL draft. The 6-ft-3 signal caller’s high school career started at Clements High School Rangers, whom he led to an undefeated 13-0 record in his junior year. However, next year he transferred to Bakersfield Christian High School and threw for more than 4k yards in a single season. The 4-time pro bowler committed to Fresno State Bulldogs in 2009 and after serving as a backup his first two years, he started 39 games from 2011 to 2013. His statistics and team record, improved each year during those 3 years. Fresno State retired Carr’s No.4 back in 2017.

Derek Carr has appeared in only one postseason game as of December 2024. Even though Carr is Raiders franchise leader in various passing metrics, he was only able to lead the team to playoffs twice in his 9-year tenure with them. While he helped Silver and Black reach the postseason in the 2016 season leading them to 12 wins in his 15 starts, he could not play in the playoffs due to suffering fibula fracture in week 16.
Carr had to wait another five years to get his team into the playoffs. In his eighth season as a starter, which saw him pass for a career-best 4,804 yards, Carr led the Raiders to a 10-7 record in the 2021 season.
