Deshaun Watson Cold Weather Stats: How effective is the Browns QB in subzero temperatures?

New Orleans Saints v Cleveland Browns
Deshaun Watson of the Cleveland Browns looks on during the second half of the game against the New Orleans Saints at FirstEnergy Stadium

According to StatHead, Deshaun Watson had only ever played once in the league when the temperature was 36 degrees or lower before last weekend's game against the New Orleans Saints.

Different degrees of adverse weather, such as cold, wind, and snow, have different impacts on football games.

When the Houston Texans played the Chicago Bears in 2020, the temperature was 34 degrees when the game started. Watson completed 21 of his 30 passes that day for 219 yards and a score. He ran on seven occasions for 38 yards while being sacked on six occasions for a loss of 52 yards.

The Texans' defense that year was among the poorest in the league. The Bears went on to defeat Houston, 36-7.

With only two games played, it might be challenging to determine how well or poorly Watson performs in cold weather conditions.

Since the New Orleans Saints joined the NFL in 1967, they have never played in a game as cold as the one they played against the Browns in Week 16 at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The temperature was 12 degrees with 30 mph winds when the game began. On December 17th, 1989, when the temperature was 10 degrees, the coldest game to ever take place was played in Cleveland.

How did Deshaun Watson perform in “the coldest game of his career?”

In the Browns' Week 16 defeat against the Saints, Deshaun Watson completed 15 of his 31 passes for 135 yards and one interception. He also added three rushes for 24 yards and a score.

It was tough to really understand anything concerning the Cleveland Browns with quarterback Deshaun Watson in the Week 16 matchup because of the terrible weather.

Watson carried the ball three times in the contest. However, it appeared that Watson opted not to run when he should have due to the poor weather conditions.

In the cold and blustery playing conditions in Cleveland, Watson mostly battled for effectiveness. He committed a number of errors, notably under and overthrowing passes, as well as a devastating interception in the Cleveland zone that resulted in the game-winning touchdown late in the third quarter.

The Browns' record fell to 6-9 after their defeat on Christmas Eve. This completely removed them from the postseason picture. Prior to the game, they had a very slim chance of qualification.

With two games remaining against the Washington Commanders and Pittsburgh Steelers, the Browns' season will end with a record no better than 8-9 for the second consecutive year thanks to a loss against the Saints.
