Derrick Deshaun Watson is an American football quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in the NFL. The Houston Texans drafted Watson with the 12th pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. After tearing his ACL during his rookie season, Watson led the Texans to consecutive division titles in 2018 and 2019 and led the league with 4823 passing yards in 2020, despite the team having a 4-12 record. After sitting out the entire 2021 NFL season due to numerous controversies, Watson was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2022, in exchange for several future first-round picks. After signing the largest fully-guaranteed contract in NFL history, Watson torn his Achilles during the 2024 NFL season, forcing him to miss out on the entire season.

Watson spent his entire collegiate career playing for the Clemson Tigers from 2014 to 2016. After sustaining numerous injuries during his rookie season, Watson led Clemson to an undefeated 12-0 regular season record and eventually to the 2016 CFP National Championship, before losing out to Alabama 45-40. Watson created college football history by recording 4000 passing yards and 1000 rushing yards, leading him to win ACC Player of the Year. Watson led Clemson again to the 2017 CFP National Championship during his junior, before winning it against the defending champions, Alabama Crimson Tide. Watson was the recipient of Davey O'Brien Award, Manning Award and ACC Athlete of the Year twice in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

According to Texans' Wire, Watson revealed in an interview that he chose the jersey number 4 as he was inspired by basketball player, J.J. Reddick.

According to Clemson Tigers' official website, Watson wore the number 4 during his high-school days but the number was retired in honor of Steve Fuller after he graduated in 1978. However, Fuller gave his blessings to wear the number.
