The Lions traveled to Lambeau Field to take on the Packers in a top-of-the-table clash, not just in the NFC North but the entire conference. Detroit came into this game with a 6-1 record and Green Bay was just one game behind, having won the same number of games but lost one more.
With the Lions atop the NFC standings, they knew that they needed a victory to stay there after the Commanders defeated the Giants earlier in the day to go to a 7-2 record. Meanwhile, the Packers knew that winning would put them up there too with the same reading in the win-loss column.
The implications were huge for the division as well because NFC North remains the only group, leading up to Week 9, with every team above 0.500. With so many things dependent on the outcome of this game, this is how it went.

Lions vs. Packers game summary
The last time the Lions won three straight games in the Lambeau Field against the Packers was in the 1980s and the 1990s. They accomplished the feat today again.
Green Bay received the ball first and went down the field in a methodical drive to score the first points of the game through a field goal. However, the Lions responded straight back with a touchdown of their own to open the second quarter.
Detroit has become known for going for it on risky plays under Dan Campbell and they did the same here on a fourth-and-goal situation. Instead of seeking to tie the game, Jared Goff seized the initiative with an endzone completion to Amon-Ra St. Brown, making it 7-3 to the visiting team.
After a couple of punts, the two teams exchanged field goal attempts. The Packers went first and missed it before the Lions scored on the next drive to take a 10-3 lead. With the half near its end, Matt LaFleur would have wanted Jordan Love to lead a drive that yielded a touchdown and tied the score. Instead, the Green Bay quarterback showed poor judgment after the snap when he conceded an interception instead of throwing the ball away.
Leading the league already in interception count before coming into this game despite missing a couple of matches, this was his 10th in 2024, one less than he had in the entire 2023 season. It was extremely costly too as it ended up being a pick-six by Kerby Joseph and changing the course of this matchup. A successful conversion meant the Lions went into halftime 17-3 ahead.
The second half began with Jahmyr Gibbs shredding the Packers' defense on the opening drive. He repeatedly picked up first downs before walking into the endzone to give Detroit a 24-3 lead. After a couple of punts, Green Bay finally got on the scoreboard again with a field goal to cut the arrears by three points.
The fourth quarter saw the Lions trying to close out the game by repeatedly running the ball but couldn't score again, as they punted twice. The Packers had to go for it and turned it over on downs once before finally getting into the endzone with a rushing attempt by Emanuel Wilson. Jordan Love connected with Christian Watson for a two-point conversion to make it 24-14.
With a little over three minutes still left, Green Bay tried an onside kick but failed. That gave Detroit the ball, and they saw the clock out to win the game and retain their grip as the top seed in both their division and conference.
