Eventually, someone had to err first; and it would be the Lions, who committed a turnover on downs while deep inside enemy territory. Howerver, Jake Moody failed to punish the blunder, missing a field goal attempt.
The second half began as the first had: with a touchdown, courtesy of Goff finding Sam LaPorta for six, then tying the game with a two-pointer to Tim Patrick. But Deebo Samuel responded in kind to retake the lead for the hosts.

Jake Bates scored a field goal afterward, then the Lions got the first major defensive play of the game: Kerby Joseph stole a deep middle pass intended for Pearsall. They would turn it into another touchdown, this time to Amon-Ra St. Brown.
The fourth quarter began with disaster, as Moody missed yet another field goal attempt - which Jake Bates punished by connecting on his second. More disaster befell the 49ers afterward, as Joseph beat Pearsall to the throw for another interception, which then turned into yet another touchdown (plus missed extra point).
Joshua Dobbs scored a rushing touchdown to reduce the deficit to six, only for Moody to miss the extra point. No one recovered the onside kick, ending the game.
