
Ronald Torbert is an American football official who works in the National Football League (NFL). He was born in Youngstown, Ohio and he graduated from Michigan State University. After graduating from the college he then attended Harvard Law School where he earned a graduate-entry professional degree in law. After graduating from law school, Torbert began his career as a side judge in 2010 and in the 2014 NFL season, he was promoted to referee. His professional career as a referee started in 2014 and he is one of only eight African-American referees in NFL history, after Johnny Grier, Mike Carey, Jerome Boger, Don Carey, Shawn Smith, Adrian Hill, and Tra Blake.
The 2024 NFL season has been Ron's 11th season as a referee. His crew for the 2024 regular season included Barry Anderson (Umpire), Frank LeBlanc (Down Judge), Brian Bolinger (Line Judge), Ryan Dickson (Field Judge), Keith Washington (Side Judge), Tony Josselyn (Back Judge), Mike Chase (Replay Official) and Jamie Alfieri-Tuss (Replay Assistant) as reported by Pro Football Network in 2024.
