The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Johnson as the 66th overall pick in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Before joining the Houston Texans as a waiver pickup in December 2024, he spent the majority of his time in Pittsburgh before appearing in some games for the Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens. Before the start of the 2022 NFL season, he was signed to a two-year $36.7 million contract by the Steelers.
