Dennis Duanne 'DJ' Reed Jr. is an American football cornerback for the New York Jets as of the 2024 NFL season. The San Francisco 49ers selected Reed as the 142nd overall pick in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Born on November 11, 1996, Reed started his football career at Independence High School in Bakersfield, California. He played outstanding defense throughout high school season, as he registered 6 interceptions and 5 fumbles. He was also very effective in offense, recording 1,150 yards and 13 touchdowns on the field.
He committed to join Fresno State Bulldogs in 2014, redshirting his freshman year. Negotiating for a better chance to play, Reed transferred to Cerritos College,in Norwalk, California. In the 2015 season, he played in 11 games as a redshirt freshman, with 42 tackles, 3 pass breakups and two interceptions. His performance fell on the radar of Kansas State University, which is where he was transferred for his last two years of college football. In 2016, Reed was a redshirt sophomore for Kansas State and he took part in all 13 games, as a cornerback and a return specialist. His playing ability paved the way for him to be selected for the 2016 All-Big 12 Conference football team. In the junior year, Reed once again had an impressive performance, which saw him be named on several award lists and yet again earning himself a place on the All-Big 12 Conference. However, his exceptional performance led the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2019, but the 49ers lost by 31-20 to the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2020, Reed was traded to the Seattle Seahawks, where he played for two years, and now he is part of the New York Jets since 2022.
