Davante Adams' contract details
After getting traded to the Raiders in 2022, Davante Adams signed a five-year $140 million contract extension with the franchise. As per Spotrac, if a team acquires Adams via a trade on the deadline, the star receiver will count for $8.6 million against the team's salary cap this year. In each of the next two seasons, Adams is due to get paid a non-guaranteed amount of $36.25 million.
The Kansas City Chiefs currently have only $4.6 million in cap space and are projected to have $25.6 million in cap space at the start of the next season. Unless they restructure the contracts of multiple players, the Chiefs simply cannot afford to trade for Adams.
Moreover, it is also very unlikely that the Raiders will trade their superstar receiver to a division rival. As a result, the New York Jets still look like the most ideal destination for Adams. The Jets currently have $17.05 million in cap space and are projected to have $86.95 million next year.
For the Chiefs, Amari Cooper is much more of an ideal trade candidate. However, it is possible that the team does not make a move at all since there is a chance Rashee Rice's injury is not a season-ending one.
