Reigning Super Bowl champion head coach Sean McVay is said to be considering his options when it comes to his coaching career. The Los Angeles Rams head coach, who is regarded as one of the best young coaches in the league, could decide to walk away just months after signing a contract extension.
McVay is currently one of the highest paid coaches in the National Football League. According to Sportico, he makes about $14 million per year. This puts him behind New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who makes $20 million a year and Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll who makes $15 million per year.

The monetary details of Sean McVay's contract weren't made public, but it is said to be a five-year deal. When he first signed the contract extension last summer, he was hesitant to even acknowledge that he had signed a deal, so the full details were never disclosed. His previous contract reportedly paid him $8.5 million per season, which led to the organization winning the Lombardi Trophy. Reportedly handsomely rewarded for his efforts, it now appears that McVay is willing to walk away from one of the biggest contracts in the game.
Does Georgia HC Kirby Smart make more than Sean McVay?
After leading the University of Georgia Bulldogs to a National Championship title over the Alabama Crimson Tide, head coach Kirby Smart received one of the highest contracts in college football. The 10-year contract extension is worth $112.5 million per year and makes him the highest paid coach.
Smart was paid $10.25 million for the 2022 season. Each year, the amount will increase until the last year of the deal in 2031 when he is set to make $12.25 million. Smart's contract also has incentives, including a $100,000 bonus for leading the Bulldogs to the SEC Championship game. If Georgia wins the SEC title, Smart gets an additional $300,000. Getting his team to the College Football Playoffs gets him an additional $500,000 bonus, and if the team is victorious over the TCU Horned Frogs on Monday night, he will receive a $1 million bonus. This season alone, Smart could make an additional $41.9 million on top of his base salary.
As part of Smart's contract, he also receives 50 hours a year to use a private jet. While this is likely for recruiting purposes, if there are ten less hours remaining each year, he can roll that over into the next year to give him even more flight time.
