In a rematch of their Week 13 game in 2023, the Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders faced off at Hard Rock Stadium.
The Dolphins, coming off an impressive 20-13 win against the Falcons, looked to win their second straight game. Meanwhile, the Commanders looked to recover from losing 17-20 at the New York Jets via a late field goal by Austin Seibert.
Ultimately, it would be the hosts winning 13-6 thanks to Tua Tagovailoa. His touchdown pass to River Cracraft proved the difference in a game mostly defined by field goals, both made and missed.

Dolphins vs. Commanders summary: Week 2 preseason
Among the high-profile players expected to make a major impact this season, 2024 draft's second-overall pick Jayden Daniels, and one-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Terry McLaurin started for the Commanders. For the Dolphins, cornerback Kendall Fuller, who replaces Xavien Howard beside Jalen Ramsey, also started.
After the Commanders' first drive ended in a missed 49-yard field goal attempt by Riley Patterson, Tagovailoa took the field and threw a touchdown to River Cracraft.
To open the second quarter, Patterson hit a 46-yard field goal, only to miss another attempt that would have put the Commanders within one. His Dolphins counterpart Jason Sanders then made a 39-yarder. Just before halftime, Patterson hit another field goal.
In the second half, Sanders hit another field goal early in the third quarter. However, he would miss for the first time on the first drive of the fourth. The game was seemingly decided when Mark Perry intercepted Trace McSorley, only to fumble the return and allow the Commanders to recover. But nothing came off the rest of the drive, allowing the Dolphins to hang on.
