Dontayvion Wicks Waiver Wire Fantasy Outlook Week 5: Is Packers WR a good pickup?

Christian Watson's injury was a big blow to this Green Bay Packers offense considering there were high hopes for the wide receiver who felt better than ever heading into the 2024 NFL season. His ankle injury means he will miss some time but with this Packers offense, it was always going to be next man up.

This time around, the man tasked with taking over from Watson is Dontayvion Wicks, who is being tapping as a top waiver wire pickup for Week 5.

Top Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups: Dontayvion Wicks

When talking of wide receivers, there are few targets as high on the waiver wire as Wicks this week. With Watson a candidate to end up on Injured Reserve, Wicks saw his volume rise with Jordan Love back in the scheme of things.

In the loss to Minnesota, Wicks caught five of his 13 targets for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Interestingly, 10 of those 13 targets came in the second half.

Jordan Love looked a teensy bit rusty after making his way back from an MCL sprain but the Packers' next two games are mouth-watering matchups. They will face the Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals over the next two weeks and the Rams matchup in particular should be more than enticing enough to convince you to get Wicks on board.

It may perhaps be a fair shout to say he has breakout potential on the waiver wire in this democratized Packers offense. At present, Wicks is rostered on 10% of ESPN leagues and 14% of Yahoo leagues.

You don't need to start him outright if you have better receivers on your roster, but the Rams matchup in Week 5 is too good an opportunity to pass up.
