What draft pick was Amon-Ra St. Brown?
Amon-Ra St. Brown

One of the most exciting wide receivers to play in the National Football League (NFL) today is Amon-Ra St. Brown. He is the current number-one receiver on the Detroit Lions football team. St. Brown’s presence in the team has greatly contributed to the overall success the Lions are currently experiencing. He has been a crucial part of the offense and has developed a great connection with current Lions’ quarterback Jared Goff.

Football has been in St. Brown’s blood since he was just a child. He, along with his brothers and father all shared the dream of being able to play in the NFL as a professional. Being the youngest of three boys, St. Brown and his brothers trained under the guidance of their former professional bodybuilding father.

Today, St. Brown’s oldest brother, Equanimeous St. Brown is also a wide receiver who plays for the Chicago Bears, while their middle brother Osiris St. Brown also played collegiate football but had to give it up due to an injury.

Education-wise, St. Brown first attended Mater Dei High School in California where he played on the school’s football team. He then spent three years at the University of Southern California (USC) and played for the USC Trojans football team.

Amon-Ra St. Brown draft

After his junior year at USC, St. Brown decided to enter the NFL Draft and forgo his senior year. Before the draft and after his NFL Combine, experts felt that he would be selected in the second or third round. However, that didn’t happen and he had to wait an extra day for his name to be called.

Finally, in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, St. Brown officially became an NFL player as the Detroit Lions drafted him with pick number 112. He was the 17th receiver to be taken off the board which is something he holds a big grudge against. Even to this day he remembers all of those 16 names taken before him and uses it as motivation to prove how good of a player other franchises passed upon.

Other notable names from the 2021 Draft class include number one overall, quarterback Trevor Lawrence, wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase, DeVonta Smith, cornerback Patrick Surtain II, linebacker Micah Parsons, and more.

Amon-Ra St. Brown with the Lions

St. Brown’s rookie season with the Detroit Lions proved that he was capable of playing at the highest level of the game. With nearly 1,000 receiving yards, he quickly became a dependable wideout for the team.

The best aspect of his game is that each year he has been developing himself and continues to grow in the league and for the franchise as well. In 2022, he bettered his rookie year by crossing the 1,000 receiving yards mark and in doing so became an integral member of the team that turned around a horrible start to their season. From 1-6 to a 9-8 record, the Lions made a big comeback thanks largely in part to St. Brown and his play.

He has once again shown his caliber in the 2023 season with an outstanding effort leading the team with 1,515 receiving yards.
