American football linebacker Dwight Jason Freeney was born on February 19, 1980, in Hartford, Connecticut. The Indianapolis Colts drafted him in the first round (11th pick) of the 2002 NFL Draft. He recorded an impressive 46 combined tackles earning a spot in the PFWA All-Rookie team in 2002.

Freeney ended up recording 332 tackles and 125.5 sacks in his NFL career. He also led the league for the most sacks in 2002 and is presented with the Colts’ ring of honour. Freeney is a seven-time Pro Bowl player who was also added to the NFL 2000s All-Decade team.

Freeney attended Bloomfield High School in Connecticut and had three letters in football and four letters in baseball and basketball. In the Connecticut record book, Freeney once held the record for the most sacks in a high school career in addition to being the record holder for sacks at his high school. He then committed to Syracuse University (1998-2001) to receive an athletic scholarship. At the end of his college career, Freeney recorded 34 quarterback sacks, 51 tackles for a loss, 43 quarterback pressures, and 104 tackles (68 unassisted). He was chosen for the Big East Conference's first team in 2000 and 2001.
