Dynasty Fantasy Football buys and sells

Capitalizing on the trade market has always been a valuable strategy in Dynasty Fantasy Football. The general approach is to sell players who could be on the decline and buy others who appear to be primed for breakouts. Here are five examples in each category from the AFC North division ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

#1 — Zay Flowers

Zay Flowers was solid during his rookie season with the Baltimore Ravens, finishing as the WR29 in fantasy football. With Odell Beckham Jr. departing the team during the offseason, Flowers could see an increased workload. This could improve his fantasy value, especially considering he was already targeted 108 times last year.

#2 — Jerome Ford

Jerome Ford took over as the Cleveland Browns' starting running back when Nick Chubb suffered a season-ending injury. He responded by finishing as the RB17 in fantasy football. Ford is four years younger than Chubb and could be the Browns' long-term starter, making him a valuable target in Dynasty leagues.

#3 — George Pickens

George Pickens improved to the WR26 last year after a WR37 finish in the season before. He could be in line to take a massive step forward with a projected workload increase after Diontae Johnson left the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pickens will also have an improved quarterback situation, so his fantasy upside is massive.

#4 — Pat Freiermuth

Pat Freiermuth recorded a career-worst TE29 finish last year, partially due to missing five games with an injury. He previously finished as the TE8 and TE13 in his first two seasons, so he makes for an ideal bounce-back candidate. His upgraded quarterback and the fact that he is just 25 years old make him a solid trade target in Dynasty formats.

#5 — Deshaun Watson

Deshaun Watson has been a major disappointment for Cleveland, but he is still just 28. Both of his seasons with the team have been shortened, so a full year could help him bounce back. He has three top-five quarterback finishes in fantasy football during his career, so he is a strong buy-low candidate in the trade market.

#1 — Derrick Henry

Derrick Henry makes for an excellent running back to target in traditional season-long leagues, but the issue with his value in Dynasty Fantasy Football is his age. He will be 30 years old in his first season with the Baltimore Ravens, so he makes more sense as a trade asset, especially considering he should command a haul in a return package.

#2 — David Njoku

David Njoku turned a career-best TE6 finish in fantasy football last year. He also set career highs in just about every receiving category, but it will be hard to trust him for a repeat performance. It was just the second time in his six seasons that he finished in the range of TE1 on fantasy rosters, making him an ideal sell-high candidate at his inflated value.

#3 — Tee Higgins

Tee Higgins has been with the Cincinnati Bengals for his entire career, but that could end soon after they declined to give him a contract extension. If he does switch teams, he may not get the luxury of playing in one of the best passing offenses in the NFL, where he has three finishes of WR30 or better in four years. With his future value uncertain, it makes sense to flip him now in a trade.

#4 — Mark Andrews

Mark Andrews has been one of the most valuable fantasy football tight ends during his career so far. Even last season when he missed seven games with an injury, he still finished as the TE13. His elite value can be cashed in for a major haul, which makes him a sell candidate. Now 28 years old, and with TE Isaiah Likely on the rise, Andrews' production may soon begin to regress.

#5 — Amari Cooper

Amari Cooper has finished as the WR33 or better in all nine of his fantasy football seasons. This includes a solid WR18 finish last year, as he dominated the target share for the Browns. His overall workload could take a hit this year with the arrival of Jerry Jeudy, making Cooper a sell-high candidate in Dynasty leagues.
