The Arizona Cardinals may have a decision to make between James Conner and Eno Benjamin at running back. Last season, Conner was among the major surprises in fantasy football, however, in this campaign he's been one of the biggest disappointments.
Conner is currently out with a rib issue, which prevented him from playing in Week 7's Thursday Night Football matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
Benjamin's value, meanwhile, is influenced by several factors. Without Conner, Benjamin just recorded 92 yards and a touchdown against the Saints. He also gained an additional 21 receiving yards on four catches from five targets. This rewarded the fantasy managers who signed Benjamin after Conner got hurt.
With Conner expected to be back in Week 8, the question arises as to who will be getting the lion's share of the carries going forward.

Why James Conner is a better pick than Eno Benjamin
James Conner has been the Cardinals' starting running back for most of the season's first six games. Although he only has 200 yards and one TD right now, he has added 14 receptions for 103 yards on 19 targets. Reports on his health will significantly impact his start or sit decisions. This is compounded by Eno Benjamin's performances while Conner was injured.
Upon his recovery, Conner should be the superior long-term choice for the lead-back position. It's important to remember, though, that Conner started last season after Chase Edmonds sustained an injury. Consequently, we have witnessed the Cardinals' readiness to swap when the backup plays well.
Conner was a game-time decision against the Saints, but he's anticipated to return for the next game. As a result, Week 8 might see Benjamin's role reduced to that of a backup. Benjamin averages 4.6 yards per attempt on the ground and 7.7 yards per reception. Conner averages 3.7 yards per carry and 7.4 yards per catch.
If James Conner is fit and ready to start in Week 8, you should start him. Owners of Eno Benjamin should put him on the bench and see what happens. Conner is a physical back that runs into a lot of traffic, so his risk of re-injury is high. If he struggles upon his return, Benjamin might find himself the lead back in the near future. Until then, Conner is the better fantasy pick.
