Running backs are often the backbone of successful Fantasy Football lineups. Receiving high point totals from the position can often provide fantasy managers with weekly victories. Most players in this position also possess a high potential bust each week. This makes it crucial to pay attention to specific matchups.
The best Fantasy Football running backs each week possess a mix of solid recent results and a favorable situation in their current weekly game. Week 8 of the 2022 Fantasy Football season provides several ideal candidates to target and others to avoid whenever possible.
Week 8 Fantasy Football Running backs: Start 'Em

Raheem Mostert has dominated the backfield touches in the last month since surpassing Chase Edmonds on the depth chart. Mostert currently ranks in the top 20 in Fantasy Football points per game over the last four weeks.
The Detroit Lions will provide a prime matchup for Mostert in Week 8. They currently allow the second-most rushing yards per game. They are also the only NFL team allowing more than 30 points per game.
Tony Pollard - Dallas Cowboys vs. Chicago Bears
It has been reported that Ezekiel Elliot is unlikely to play in Week 8 as he recovers from a knee injury. This means Tony Pollard will be the starting running back for the Dallas Cowboys this week.
Pollard is a solid flex option when Elliot plays, but he is a borderline RB1 in Fantasy Football with an increased workload. This is especially true in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears. They currently allow the fourth-most rushing yards and sixth-most fantasy points per game to running backs.
D'Onta Foreman - Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons
D'Onta Foreman took over as the Carolina Panthers' starting running back last week. This is a result of Christian McCaffrey being traded to the San Francisco 49ers.
Foreman responded by recording 17 touches for 145 total yards. His workload was impressive and could be even higher in Week 8 as Chuba Hubbard is dealing with an injury.
Week 8 Fantasy Football Running Backs: Sit 'Em
AJ Dillon - Green Bay Packers vs. Buffalo Bills
AJ Dillon entered the 2022 NFL season as an exciting Fantasy Football running back to target. Many believed he would challenge Aaron Jones for the lead role in the Packers backfield. It hasn't worked out that way for Dillon as he has been a major disappointment so far.
Dillon has become a bit of an afterthought in his offense, receiving fewer than 10 touches in two of his last three games. His explosiveness has disappeared this year, failing to record a single play of 20 or more yards so far this season.
David Montgomery - Chicago Bears vs. Dallas Cowboys
David Montgomery has been a decent Fantasy Football running back this year, but offers little upside. He has recorded 20 touches or 100 total yards in just one game so far this season and has never scored multiple touchdowns.
Montgomery continues to share the backfield with Khalil Herbert, making it difficult for him to be trusted in Fantasy Football. He should probably only be used in favorable matchups, but the stout Dallas Cowboys defense is a reason to avoid him in Week 8.
James Robinson - New York Jets vs. New England Patriots
James Robinson was recently traded to the New York Jets following rookie Breece Hall suffering a season-ending injury. Robinson was in a split backfield with Travis Etienne for the Jacksonville Jaguars and will now be in another one with Michael Carter.
It's unclear how the Jets will distribute backfield touches to their new duo, but it wouldn't be surprising for Robinson to earn the lead role. He has a bright outlook for the rest of the season, but is extremely risky in Week 8. It has been reported that the Jets will ease him into action.
