One of the top tight ends to play the game of American football today is the dynamic George Kittle. He plays for the San Francisco 49ers franchise and is currently playing in his seventh season. Born in Madison, Wisconsin, on October 9, 1993, Kittle has quickly become a very dependable player for the 49ers.

As described by his parents in a small video on YouTube, Kittle was always fond of the game and even told his mother that one day he would become a professional football player. From his childhood days, he has been quite a chirpy kid and drew others towards him with his personality, something that his current teammates can also testify to.

Although for most tight ends the best part of the game comes when they get a chance to catch the ball and run with it, for Kittle there is more excitement in blocking during a run or a pass play. His enthusiasm for blocking as a tight end comes from his early days when his father, a former left tackle, taught him the importance of influencing the outcome of a game without having the ball in your hands.

George Kittle Age

Kittle is 30 years old as of December 2023. He was born on October 9, 1993, to parents Bruce Kittle and Jan Krieger in Madison, Wisconsin. A seven-year veteran now, Kittle started playing the game at an early age due to his fascination with the sport as a child.

During his school days, he was primarily coached by his father who is a former college football coach. Kittle attended Iowa City West High School and Cedar Falls High School, both in Iowa before finishing his high school education at Norman High School in Norman, Oklahoma.

The 4 time Pro Bowler went to the University of Iowa where he redshirted his freshman year and then went on to play for the Hawkeyes football team for the next four years. At the time of his draft selection, Kittle was 23 years old and turned 24 within a month of his rookie season in 2017.

George Kittle NFL Draft

The San Francisco 49ers selected Kittle in the fifth round with the 146th overall pick. Kittle was a member of the 2017 NFL Draft class. After evaluating his college performances and the NFL Combine performance, most scouts and analysts had Kittle going in the third or the fourth round of the draft.

He was generally considered as amongst the 5th to 8th best tight ends in the class of 2017.

The 2017 NFL Draft is also famous for other notable players such as number one overall - Myles Garrett, Christian McCaffrey, Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, Haason Reddick, T. J. Watt, Cooper Kupp, and many more.

George Kittle Height and Weight

Kittle stands at 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m) and weighs 250 lb (113 kg). He comes in at nearly the average height and weight for an NFL tight end. NFL tight ends need to be some of the tallest players on the field as they need to be able to catch the ball in tight spaces and require good height and reach.

Their weight also plays a crucial factor, especially in the run game and the pass rush which they need to try and defend as they face the stronger linebackers in front of them. A tight end is used more for blocking purposes than for catching but Kittle is a prime example of an exceptional player in both aspects of the game.
