Earlier on Thursday, it was confirmed that Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock defeated his challenger, Republican Herschel Walker, in the Georgia runoff. Former NFL star Walker lost the US Senate seat in Georgia by a narrow margin.
According to reports from the New York Times, Walker received 48.6% of the 3,535,579 votes that were cast at the Georgia election. Warnock won the race after receiving a total of 51.4% of the votes, which totaled 1,816,096.
Walker's defeat in the election also marked a big loss for former President Donald Trump, who supported the former NFL running back and campaigned for him. As per reports, voters who backed Warnock had a simple justification to support the Democrat. Most of the public found Walker unqualified for the Senate and, moreover, Trump's support of the former football star didn't help his cause.
However, it was an iconic win for Warnock, who became the first black senator from Georgia. He will serve a full six-year term as chief of state.
