One of Montana's most memorable games of the season came in Week 3 when the 49ers faced off against the Philadelphia Eagles. In that game, Montana threw for 421 yards and five touchdowns, including four in the fourth quarter, leading the 49ers to a 38-28 victory. He also had a passer rating of 142.8, which was one of the highest of his career but not even the highest of his season.

In Week 10, against the Atlanta Falcons, Montana posted a perfect passer rating of 158.3. He completed 84% of his passes for 270 yards and three passing touchdowns, and he would also rush for a touchdown in the 45-3 victory.

Another memorable game for Montana came in the NFC Championship game, when the 49ers faced off against the Los Angeles Rams. In that game, Montana threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns, leading the 49ers to a 30-3 victory and securing a spot in Super Bowl XXIV.
