Gus Edwards or Zack Moss?: Week 8 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Fantasy Football Projection for RBs

Gus Edwards or Zack Moss for fantasy?
Gus Edwards or Zack Moss for fantasy football in Week 8?

Gus Edwards and Zack Moss are busy establishing themselves as solid fantasy options, with one being the backup and the other the "starter" in a bit of a backfield by committee. At this stage of the fantasy season, it is absolutely vital to know who to start moving forward. Here's the outlook for these two backs.

Gus Edwards fantasy projections

Gus Edwards has separated himself from the pack in Baltimore. The running back has earned the majority of the carries after playing pretty well. In a given week, he can definitely score points in your lineup.

However, the Baltimore Ravens backfield is always messy. When JK Dobbins gets hurt, which is a terribly sad yearly occurrence at this point, someone has to step up behind him, and it's often a committee.

Edwards has become the lead back, but Justice Hill can't be left out. Nor can Lamar Jackson, who is good for more than a few carries himself. That's true of Devin Duvernay and Rashod Bateman, too.

Edwards is the back you should have in fantasy from the Ravens. There are too few backs available to ignore a supposed starter. However, trusting him week in and week out may not always be smart.

Is Zack Moss a good pick in fantasy?

For a long time this season, Zack Moss was the ultimate sleeper. Due to health and contract concerns of others, it looked like he was going to be the man with the Indianapolis Colts.

That was true for a while, but Jonathan Taylor is back. Last week, they each had 18 carries, but Taylor did far more with them. He's a premier back, and he's likely to only see higher usage going forward.

However, it's been a bit since he returned, and it's clear that the Colts still want Moss involved. He's a backup now, but he's more valuable than a lot of backups. He could do well in any given week, and there's always a slight chance he outdoes Taylor.

Without Anthony Richardson, there aren't any designed QB runs in the playbook for the most part. That means more carries for both Taylor and Moss, which is certainly good for Moss owners.

Unfortunately, Taylor was extended and is healthy now. That puts a major damper on the value of Moss, but he's still proving to be worth owning in fantasy leagues.

Should I start Zack Moss or Gus Edwards?

When it comes down to who you should start between these two players, there are caveats to both. Zack Moss isn't the starter anymore, but he gets a lot of carries. Gus Edwards is the de facto starter, but that doesn't mean a lot in Baltimore.

This week will be the ultimate determining factor for Moss. If the trend of splitting carries with Jonathan Taylor continues, he'd be the safer bet. If not, then Edwards' big-play ability makes him the guy.

Before then, it's good to look at matchups and go with the better one. Edwards is facing the Arizona Cardinals, 29th against running backs in 2023. Moss, on the other hand, faces the New Orleans Saints, who are fourth-best against backs in fantasy football.

Go with Edwards, but pay attention to the trends moving forward.
