Sometimes in the game of American football, the contributions of members on the special teams such as the kickers, punters, receivers, etc. go completely unnoticed. This usually happens because these players are in the thick of things for a very short amount of time despite coming up with the most crucial plays in the game. Kickers especially, have won the game for their teams on numerous occasions with their field goal heroics.
One such kicker in the NFL is Harrison Butker who is playing for the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2023 NFL season. Butker has been part of the Chiefs’ franchise since 2017 and has been an excellent contributor for them over the seasons. He has come through for Kansas City in several big moments, be it the regular season or the postseason, and his efforts have gone a long way in helping the Chiefs win Super Bowls LIV and LVII.
As of the end of the 2018 regular season, Butker has made a total of 197 field goals from 221 attempts giving him a field goal percentage of 89.1%. He currently ranks second in the history of the NFL in this category behind only Justin Tucker.
Furthermore, Butker was the NFL scoring leader in 2019 after he scored 147 points on the season. He has led the league twice in field goals made in 2017 and 2019 with 42 and 38 respectively. His longest career field goal to date is a 62-yarder which he made in the 2022 season in a game against the Buffalo Bills.
