“Haters struggling just watching this” – 49ers fans hyped after clip emerges of Trey Lance and Patrick Mahomes in action

The San Francisco 49ers traded up to pick No. 3 in the 2021 NFL Draft to select QB Trey Lance. Lance had a lot of hype coming out of North Dakota State, and rightfully so as he was 17-0 as a starter, while throwing just one interception in college.

He sat his rookie season behind Jimmy Garoppolo before being named starter of the 2022 season. Unfortunately for him, his season ended in Week 2 after suffering a season-ending ankle injury vs. the Seattle Seahawks.

Following his road to recovery, Lance was spotted yesterday throwing with Patrick Mahomes.

This is a good sign for 49ers fans as it shows some progress in his recovery.

49ers fans reacted to the clip of Trey Lance putting in offseason work with Patrick Mahomes and are hyped for his comeback. It seems as if many 49ers fans are rooting for him to win the starting job this season.

While Trey Lance is throwing again, it's going to be tough for the third-year quarterback to win the starting quarterback job for the 49ers.

He will face competition from second-year quarterback Brock Purdy.

Purdy stepped in for the 49ers late in the season when Jimmy Garoppolo got hurt and played sensationally. He finished the season 5-0 while leading the 49ers to the NFC Championship before suffering an elbow injury.

While the 49ers have a good problem figuring out who their starting quarterback will be, it seems like general manager John Lynch is leaning toward starting Purdy.

Lynch said:

"I think Brock has earned the right with the way he played that he’s probably the leader in the clubhouse at that. ... If we were to line up, he’d probably take that first snap."

"We’ve always said we don’t care where you were drafted, if you were drafted, that’s always been our stance. ... We’re still very excited about Trey but I think the way Brock played, he probably has earned that right to be the guy."

The team also signed veteran quarterback Sam Darnold in case Purdy and Lance aren't healthy enough to start the season.

It will be interesting to see how the quarterback situation plays out in San Fran.
