New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been a part of multiple controversies across his 17 years in the NFL. Rodgers is often criticized for his public comments, but the four-time league MVP doesn’t hesitate to speak his mind. However, an instance from the COVID era has largely impacted his public image, making him feel embarrassed to this day.

Rodgers initially remained reluctant to get vaccinated and gave different reasons. He received backlash, including from Jimmy Kimmel, who roasted him on his show by calling him a "Karen," as reported by the New York Times in November 2021.

“Aaron is a Karen; that’s the fact of the matter,” Kimmel said.

Stephen Colbert also blasted Rodgers and took a shot at the Green Bay Packers.

“I’m no expert, but I’m guessing it’s a lot easier to just play football with a shot in your arm than a jade egg stuck where the sun don’t shine. Then again, they are called the Packers,” Colbert said.

Aaron Rodgers and his COVID vaccination saga

Rodgers was involved in an ensuing drama over the vaccination process. In August 2021, he claimed to be "immunized," but he then said that he had a homeopathic treatment regimen that qualifies as vaccination before citing an allergy to the drug.

“It was simply the fact that I have an allergy to an ingredient that's in the mRNA vaccines," Rodgers said on 'The Pat McAfee Show' in November 2021. "So, on the CDC's own website, it says, 'Should you have an allergy to any of the ingredients, you should not get one of the mRNA vaccines.'”

Rodgers claimed that he was allergic to polyethylene glycol, or PEG, in the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, and he was also concerned about the vaccine from Johnson and Johnson. He tested positive for COVID in November and missed the game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He tried to appeal the league's decision but lost.

Aaron Rodgers regrets his actions for putting lives at risk

Jimmy Kimmel also reminded Aaron Rodgers of putting the lives of others at risk.

“Honestly, the only thing worse than not getting vaccinated when you’re in close contact with other people is letting them think you’re vaccinated when you’re not," Kimmel said. "It’s basically the COVID equivalent of ‘The condom fell off.’”

Although Rodgers eventually agreed to get vaccinated, the horrors of the event still stayed with him. As per a report by ESPN last August, Rodgers said that he regrets his actions during the COVID era, especially his false claims of being immunized.
