The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will square off in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans in February. This contest will be a rematch of the Super Bowl from two years ago.

The Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills 32-29 on Sunday night, while the Eagles progressed to the Super Bowl with a resounding 55-23 win over the Washington Commanders.

The Chiefs will be playing in the Big Game for the third consecutive year. They are aiming for an unprecedented three-peat after winning the last two, while the Eagles will only be pursuing their second championship in franchise history.

The Chiefs defeated the Eagles 38-35 in their Super Bowl matchup in 2023.

What happened in Super Bowl LVII?

Only three points separated the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. Cornerback James Bradberry was penalized for pass interference, giving the Chiefs the chance to win with a field goal in the closing seconds of the game.

The Eagles had an advantage of 10 points at half-time after a solid start, but Patrick Mahomes' three touchdown drives in the second half helped the Chiefs win their third Super Bowl.

The NFL Championship that season featured a number of plotlines, notably the matchup between brothers Jason and Travis Kelce. In addition, Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes became the first pair of African-American quarterbacks to face off in the Super Bowl. Chiefs coach Andy Reid was also facing his old team.

Jalen Hurts had a great game, completing 27 of 37 passes for 304 yards and a touchdown, and running for 70 yards on 15 attempts and three touchdowns. Yet, the Eagles were unable to win. Mahomes earned his second career Super Bowl ring after throwing for three touchdowns in that contest.

When is Super Bowl LIX?

The 2022 season victory over the Philadelphia Eagles was the first of the Kansas City Chiefs' two consecutive Super Bowl victories. The team also defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl last year.

Eight other teams in the history of the NFL have won two consecutive Super Bowls before Kansas City, but none have been able to accomplish three consecutive titles.

The Chiefs will have the opportunity to accomplish that on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, when they face the Eagles in Super Bowl 59, which will take place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The game will air on Fox.

New Orleans will host the Super Bowl for the 11th time, tying Miami for the most in history. Miami last hosted the major event in 2020. The last time the NFL Championship game was held in New Orleans was in 2013.
