The expectations at the beginning of the season were for the New York Jets to make the postseason. However, given the team's miserable 2-5 start to the season, the results are not nearly there. The Jets won two of their first three games this season, but after losing 37-15 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7, they have lost their last four games.
In the last two weeks, the team traded for wide receiver Davante Adams, sacked head coach Robert Saleh and relieved former offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett of his duties.
How many NFL teams have made the playoffs after going 2-5?
While the intention is not to instill false optimism among New York Jets supporters, the reality is that the team can still qualify for the postseason if they can start winning games, starting with a victory over the 1-6 New England Patriots in Week 8.

Last season, despite beginning the season with a 2-5 record, the Green Bay Packers secured an NFC Wild Card playoff position and the No. 7 seed on the last day of the regular season.
The Packers eventually finished the season with a 9-8 record. Before being eliminated by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round, they proceeded to shock the Dallas Cowboys 48-32 in the Wild Card round.
In addition, the Jacksonville Jaguars won six of their last seven regular season games to capture the AFC South title and qualify for the playoffs after having a 2–5 start to the 2022 campaign.
The Jaguars overcame the Los Angeles Chargers 31–30 in the Wild Card round of that season's playoffs. They eventually lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 27-20 in the divisional round, bringing an end to their season.
Since 1990, 10 teams with a 2-5 record after their first seven games have made it to the postseason. These are the teams, along with the seasons in which they accomplished the feat:
1) 1995 Detroit Lions
2) 2002 New York Jets
3) 2011 Denver Broncos
4) 2015 Houston Texans
5) 2015 Kansas City Chiefs

Exploring the New York Jets' chances of making the postseason
Although things aren't looking good, the positive news for the 2-5 New York Jets is that only four games from their remaining 10 games are against teams with winning records. The Houston Texans in Week 9, the Indianapolis Colts in Week 11, the Seattle Seahawks in Week 13, and the Buffalo Bills in Week 17.
This means the Jets still have plenty of time and chance to turn things around and re-enter the postseason picture. In fact, the Jets still have a 47% chance to qualify for the postseason, according to ESPN analytics.
That being said, the NFL Playoff Predictor tool from Sportskeeda doesn't think highly of the Jets' prospects of making it to the playoffs. According to the tool, New York will only win five of its remaining 10 games and will not make it to the postseason.
